Mexico Orders Meta, TikTok and X to Strengthen Online Safety for Children

President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum signed an executive order directing large digital companies such as Meta, TikTok, and X to ensure the safety of children by preventing them from accessing violent, sexual, and harmful content and immediately taking down any dangerous content on their platforms. The order follows a tragic event at a school in Coahuila, and the President warned that if companies do not take responsibility, the government will ensure strict legislative penalties are imposed on them. This step comes amid the global move towards ensuring the safety of children online, as seen in Australia, Europe, Brazil, and the US.
